Is BNM's Integrity Compromised?

The Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center) is deeply disturbed by recent revelations from the Edge Weekly, that more than US$16 million of the 1MDB money trail had found its way into the company accounts of the spouse of former central bank governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

If the bizarre 1MDB money trail had not already provided overwhelming shock and awe at the gruesome level of thievery, this revelation, if true, will speak volumes of the corruption of our institutions.

The chilling fact of the matter in this expose is that, if there is any truth to the matter, the integrity of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) as a whole would be seen as fully compromised, and would smell foully of complicity and corruption.  

  • Financial Accountability Transparency & Integrity (FACTI) Report

    C4 Center, via our Founding Director Cynthia Gabriel was among the panel at  the United Nations ESCAP High-Level Panel on International Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity (FACTI) for Achieving the 2030 Agenda and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific: "Towards an Ecosystem of Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity". She addressed on the global anti corruption challenges of tax evasion, money laundering and corruption issues. The final report, which was published on 26 Feb 2021 includes recommendations on closing gaps in the international anti-corruption framework.

    The environmental impact assessment (EIA) for Lynas’s Permanent Disposal Facility (PDF) revealed that 202.35 hectares (ha) of Bukit Ketam will be developed as a Multi-Category Industrial Scheduled Waste Disposal Site (MCISW Disposal Site). This area will be carved out of the Bukit Kuantan Forest Reserve and Lynas’s PDF will take up 58.25ha or 29% of this land.
